Fear Not
by Sheila Weddle
Fear not for I am with you. Over and over the word of God tells us not to be
afraid. I will not leave you or forsake you. "For God has not given us a
spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7
What in your life will cause fear to grip you? The mind will feel as if it
just froze up. The emotions will collapse on you and the physical body will
get sick. Maybe you react differently, but that is a good illustration to
what would happen to me.
Fear is evil and tormenting and should not be a part of a Christian's life.
Fear and faith cannot live in the same place.
Psalm 91 is one of my favorite passages for many areas of my life but
especially when it comes to fear.
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the
shadow of the Almighty." We have a right to be in this secret place because
He is our Father through our faith in Jesus. According to this we get to
live here. Sounds a lot like John 15 speaking of abiding in the vine. Verse 2
"I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I
will trust.'" When we dwell, or live in the secret place with God, we begin to
know Him. You have to know someone before you trust in him or her. Here is
where you get to know the character of Father God:
1. God loves you.
2. He only wants good for you.
3. He has done everything to give you a victorious life.
Never accuse God of doing things that is not in His character to do. Check
your sources… the devil is the thief.
Verses 3-6 "Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from
the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His
wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You
shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by
day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction
that lays waste a noonday." These verses us that it is God who is delivering
and protecting. Whatever fear is tormenting you at this time take these
scriptures and replace fear with the word of God.
Verses 7-8 "A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right
hand; but it shall not come near you." I have used these scriptures for
everything from job loss to automobile accidents. Know that hurt and harm
does not have to come to your house. God is faithful to His word and to you.
Verses 9-10 "Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, and even the
Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague
come near your dwelling;" Again confirming that the Lord is your dwelling
therefore you are in place to receive.
Verses 11-13 "For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in
all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your
foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young
lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot." The Bible tells us we do
have angels about us. You have authority over demons and what they will bring
into your life. He gives us everything we need to live a victorious life.
These next verses are so exciting to me, more promises. Let me suggest you
put your name in these scriptures.
Verses 14-16 "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver
him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call
upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver
him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My
salvation."
His promises are yes and amen. When you get to the end of this psalm just
start praising Him. Tell Him how grateful you are for His protection,
deliverance, and changing situations in your life because the angels have
been there.
What are some fears that you have in your life?
How are you going to replace them with faith?
More scriptures for you:
Psalm 56:3-4 "Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God I will
praise His word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh
do to me."
Hebrews 13:5-6 "For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake
you." So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What
can man do to Me?"
1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear,
because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in
love."
Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not
be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you
go."
Psalm 27:1 "The Lord is my light and my salvation Whom shall I fear? The
Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalm 23 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down
in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I
walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You
are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table
before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup
runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my
life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
